July CT Scan Report

Today we received the doctor's analysis of Lon's quarterly CT scan.  She sounded delighted with the findings of NO involvement of the liver, lungs and lymph nodes. Apparently those are prime areas where cancer tends to metastasize.  The words "stable" and "unchanged" were used to describe the two masses on the pancreas, so we are happy with that. The CA 19-9 marker rose a few more points - to 36 - but doesn't seem to be cause for alarm.

Lon is in the midst of round 23 of the same regimen of chemo he has undergone since August. As long as it is keeping the tumor from growing and he can tolerate the side effects, he will continue with the same treatment.  We were also presented with a contingency plan -  a different drug if the present treatment ceases to be effective.

We really like his oncologist, Dr. Julie Smith. Her competence and care for Lon are so evident each time we meet with her.  Today he asked her about the possibility of his scuba diving again, something that was out of the question when he developed a clot in his neck last fall.  She looked over his scan (clot is gone) and decided it would be fine if he dives with other certified divers who know of his condition - and if he listens to what his body is telling him.  So, we'll see what he does with that!

We praise God for His gifts of life and health - and for His gift of peace that passes understanding when the future looks unsure.
